By: Sports Tours International Sports Tours International (https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/) "We don't just take runners to events around the world; we organise events ourselves and our expertise shows. Here at Sports Tours International we live and breathe sport," said the company's Head of Product and Operations Alex de Waard, from offices in Manchester, minutes from Tameside. He notes that that there are direct flights from North America to Manchester, the UK's second largest city. A variety of running routes and terrains on roads and hills will challenge participants physically and mentally, with all stages carefully chosen to be achievable for runners of all abilities. The Tour of Tameside, founded in 1983 by Olympian and marathon legend Ron Hill, was re-energized when Sports Tours International took over the reins. This running event has been called "The Ultimate Running Challenge." The Tour of Tameside begins with a 10k cross-country run on the eve of June 14. The trail takes in two superb local country parks and a variety of running terrain including a steep gradient and long flats on surfaces ranging from tarmac to cobblestones to woodchip paths. A six-mile Hell on the Fell Race is held on June 15 with an evening start that pits runner against the landscape, taking on the steep climb and steep descent – a guaranteed challenge for all ability levels. It ends later that night with a ceremony crowning the male, female and age category winners. The Hero Half Marathon has a mid-morning start on June 16. Runners will cover the 13.1 mile half marathon journey on a trail that parallels a disused railway line. The Tour of Tameside's finale is the Dr. Ron Hyde 7-Mile Race on the morning of June 17. Afterwards, all runners and their guests will retire into Hyde Town Hall for the post-race presentation ceremony and to toast the four days of running. Sports Tours International suggests that after this excitement in Tameside concludes that runners and their companions tag on a break to Edinburgh and Scotland in the north, explore Britain's beautiful Lake District or scoot on down to London.
