VADODARA, India - May 14, 2018 - PRLog -- Under industry defined research project titled "To Reduce Water Consumption and Optimize Efficiency of Thermal Power Plants by Using Air Cooled Condensers" funded by Royal Academy of Engineering, UK under Newton Bhabha Fund, Parul University jointly with L&T and University of Surrey has organized Workshop on "Wind Tunnel Experiments - Techniques and Applications" on 17th March, 2018 (Saturday) Central Auditorium of Parul Campus, Village Limdaa, Waghodia, Vadodara (Dist.), Gujarat.

Dr. Sanjay Mittal, Ph.D. (1992); M.S. (1990), both in Aerospace Engineering, University of Minnesota, USA; B.Tech., Aeronautical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (1988) who is presently working as Head, National Wind Tunnel Facility (NWTF) (since 2012) at IIT, Kanpur was resource expert for the workshop. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Sanjay Mittal, Mr. Rajen Pandya of L&T PTI, Dr. H.S. Vijaykumar, Registrar, Dr. M.R. Patel, Dr. F.S. Xavier and Dr. P.G.K. Murthy of PU.

The Workshop was attended by over 400 participants represented by about 35 Faculty Members and 380 students of M.Tech and B.Tech in areas of Aeronautical, CSE and Mechanical Engineering Branches of Engineering from MS University, colleges like SVIT, ITM Universe etc. from Gujarat Technological University and Parul University. About 10 managers from companies like L&T, Siemens etc., participated in the workshop. The Workshop was highly appreciated by all participants both from academia and industry!

The workshop was coordinated by Prof. Jay Sudani of Mechanical Engineering Department of PIET.

Technical Details of The Workshop are as follows:

Session 1: The Session started with Brief History of Wind Tunnel, followed by the basic structure of Modern Wind Tunnel along with its classification. Thereafter, the speaker showcased the variety of Wind Tunnel Facility available across the world along with their specification.

Session 2: Here in this session, speaker explained the mathematical principles to be used for scaling down a prototype into model without much loss of information. He used several case studies to make audience understand about the complexity involved in the Wind Tunnel Testing. He clearly explained about how the model should be prepared for Structural and Fluid Flow Analysis.

Session 3: The speaker covered the techniques to measure Pressure, Force, Velocity, Strain, Temperature, etc. Here the speaker talked about the advanced velocity measuring techniques like, Hot Wire Anemometer & Particle Image Velocimetry. He also discussed the methods for visualization of Flow using Smoke Injector. He also talked about how exactly one can figure out the point of Flow separation using Oil film on the surface of the body.

Session 4: Here he briefly mentioned about the work carried out at the National Wind Tunnel Facility, IIT Kanpur under his supervision.

The Workshop ended with vote of thanks by Dr. P.G.K. Murthy, Team Lead of RAE Project who profoundly thanked all those who contributed to success of the workshop.
