By: Blue Bahia El Aguila El Aguila is an intentionally sunken cargo ship that rests under 100 feet of water. It's been there for over 20 years and as such, plays host to a thick bed of coral and plenty of fish including grouper, eels, parrotfish and more. The ship has come apart into three sections which allows for exploration of some of the wreck's inner spaces without the need for wreck diving certification. Mandy's Eel Garden Close to the Roatan resorts in West Bay, Mandy's Eel Garden is just offshore, easily accessible and shallow which makes it a perfect dive spot for beginners. As the name suggests, several species of eel call the area home. Mandy's Eel Garden is also known for frequent sightings of octopi, turtles, rays and barracuda. Because the water's are so shallow, the coral beds are some of the brightest and most colourful anywhere in Roatan. The Odyssey The Odyssey is another intentionally sunken wreck. At over 300 feet long it is the biggest shipwreck around Roatan and one of the largest in the entire Caribbean. The wreck is still intact and therefore requires wreck diving certification, however there are holes cut into the side of the ship to allow experienced divers to enter. Mary's Place Mary's Place is one of the most popular diving spots off Roatan. The abundant sea life, large coral fans and massive fields of sponges make the site attractive to divers of all skill levels. The sandy bottom goes down to 200 feet and provides great visuals.
