NEW YORK - May 21, 2018 - PRLog -- According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 900 women die each year in the United States, as a result of pregnancy or delivery complications. Naima Beckles, Co-Founder, For Your Birth (http://www.foryourbirth.com) (http://www.foryourbirth.com), recently wrote a heartfelt essay on the life and death choices for black women and childbirth. The essay was published on BlackEnterprise.com (http://www.blackenterprise.com/life-and-death-black-women-and-childbirth/) and shared over 200 times. "Regardless of socio-economics, post-delivery complications are common amongst black and Hispanic women.  Women know when something does not feel right, it's our mission to educate moms, families and all about the importance of doula services. For Your Birth celebrates doula awareness daily with an emphasis on education throughout the month of May.

Excerpt from Naima's essay: "If the reason that black women and babies are dying at much higher rates is largely attributed to institutional racism and the stress that our bodies endure because of it, then how do we educate and inspire confidence in the women who are our country's most vulnerable pregnant population? We can start by knowing we have options when it comes to black women and childbirth. Within the past few months, the death of activist Erica Garner and the birth story of Serena Williams (https://www.cnn.com/2018/01/10/health/serena-williams-bir...) have sounded an alarm. They put a face to what decades of research have shown: black women aren't being seen or heard (http://www.blackenterprise.com/black-women-maternal-morta...) in the same way that white women are in pregnancy. We can do better. Doulas and childbirth educators fit so well into this equation. We're here and can help save lives."

Beckles, a leading doula expert, has been featured in numerous media outlets – educating and advocating about the work of doula care and support. Appearances include several radio interviews plus Black Enterprise, Tom Joyner Morning Show, Sirius XM Karen Hunter Show, ABC-TV, NBC-TV, Amsterdam News, MadameNoire, Philadelphia Tribune, Hello Beautiful and popular public access show, BronxNet and NY City Lens.

For Your Birth, located in Manhattan, with a dedicated team provides labor support for all births and all people. Naima Beckles is a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, DONA certified birth doula, lactation counselor, and mother to two boys. For Your Birth is now a proud elite partner of City Births, (voted "best in Manhattan" four years in a row); selected as City Birth's only trusted in-house doula agency.

The mission of For Your Birth is to lovingly educate families and mothers about the journey and stages of childbirth, pre, and post. The real work begins once the baby is delivered and mothers are in a fragile state mentally, spiritually and physically. "Mothers must trust and rely on their voice, body and support team to ensure a successful pregnancy, delivery and at home care. Doulas are a second set of eyes, ears, and support," states Naima.
