Do you really need to wear camo while fishing?

PLATTE CITY, Mo. - June 4, 2018 - PRLog -- Is it really necessary to wear camo while fishing? This is definitely a personal preference or at least to some degree.

If you're trout fishing where you are up close and personally in the environment it is recommended that you blend into your surroundings. Also minimize anything bright and reflective. Trout are alert to predators, especially birds flying over them - that includes shadows. It is better to blend into the browns and greens of the banks and woods than stick out like a stalking egret.

If you're in a boat, it's more of a matter of opinion. Some people just like the look of camo, they want to look the part, some feel like it actually helps them keep from "spooking" the fish and others believe it simply should be worn when hunting. Of course you have your die hard camo fans that want to be buried in their favorite camo gear!

What do some of the pros have to say on this topic?

Alton Jones had talked about that when he was fishing the classic, from the "pro" perspective, it really only matters when you're sight fishing or fishing in really shallow areas and the water is very clear. He was wearing an olive green polo shirt.

Other professionals like Shaw Grigsby has said he is more concerned about just protecting his skin. He prefers long sleeves and long pants to keep the sun from beating down on him for hours. That's also why he started wearing a face mask, not to mention it helps keep the glare down.

That being said, don't forget to protect your eyes with sunglasses and your head with a hat.

What it comes down to is wear what makes you comfortable, consider the elements and most important, have fun enjoying the outdoors!
