By: MPS-ISAO

TITUSVILLE, Fla. - June 14, 2018 - PRLog -- The Maritime and Port Security Information Sharing and Analysis Organization (MPS-ISAO), a private sector, non-profit advancing global maritime and port critical infrastructure cyber resilience via sharing of cyber threat intelligence and coordinated response, has announced hosting a cybersecurity training event with the Port of New Orleans.  The event, scheduled August 8th at the Port of New Orleans will feature subject-matter experts from government, academia, and the private sector with the intent of advancing cybersecurity awareness and reducing risk across the Louisiana maritime community.

"This event will prominently feature the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, and the training agenda has been specifically crafted to introduce the five functions of the Framework – Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond and Recover", states Christy Coffey, VP of Operations for the MPS-ISAO.

David Cordell, CIO for the Port of New Orleans explains, "Introducing the NIST Cybersecurity Framework to training attendees provides them a foundation to build from – to begin incorporating cybersecurity best practice and solutions into their existing security and business operations.  We are delighted to be working with state partners, private sector cybersecurity experts, vendor sponsors, and the MPS-ISAO to bring this training event to the Louisiana maritime community."

The agenda will include cybersecurity subject-matter expert presentations from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Louisiana State Analytical and Fusion Exchange (LA-SAFE), Louisiana State University's Stephenson Disaster Management Institute, MPS-ISAO, Port of New Orleans, SecureXperts, and Wapack Labs.

Captain Chuck McNeal, LA-SAFE offers, "Cybersecurity is a team sport.  It sounds cliché, but the Louisiana maritime community is as strong as the weakest link.  Our "See Something, Send Something" campaign to report suspicious activity extends to cybersecurity, and increased cybersecurity awareness across the Louisiana maritime community is good for the state.  We are looking forward to this event."

Vendor sponsors, whose solutions are perfectly suited for small to medium sized businesses, will be on display at the training event.  They include ARES Security, Druva, NetApp, Perch Security, Proofpoint, and TrustedInternet all whom offer products or services that reduce cybersecurity risk and align with the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.

"It was important for us recruit vendor sponsors who offer products and services that reduce cybersecurity risk indiscriminate of organization size or budget, said Coffey. We are grateful to have strong vendor support for this training event and hope to repeat this kind of event in other geographies."

Ports, tenants, terminal operators, vessel operators, maritime vendors/suppliers/service providers, the US Coast Guard, military and National Guard, law enforcement, first responders, facility security officers, and InfraGard and Area Maritime Security Committee members with an interest in maritime cybersecurity are encouraged to attend.  The event is open to persons from across the Gulf of Mexico.

A registration page with agenda for the training event is available at https://fd7.formdesk.com/iaci/New_Orleans_Cyber_Event_Aug....  All participants will receive a certificate of training completion.
