BALTIMORE - July 2, 2018 - PRLog -- 2018 marks the 23rd anniversary of the annual Women of Color STEM Conference co-hosted by Consumers Energy Company and General Motors and sponsored by Lockheed Martin Corporation. The conference will be October 11 – 13, 2018, in Detroit, MI, and the 2018 Technologist of the Year award will be presented to Donna Bell, Director of Research Operations at Ford Motor Company.

The Women of Color STEM Conference is more important than ever before as just half of STEM graduates pursue careers in their educational paths. For more than two decades, this conference has served the dual purpose of showcasing outstanding contributions in STEM and highlighting the challenges of gender harassment, gender bias, discouragement, and the lack of support women face in the workforce. This year's conference theme, "Press for Progress," reflects the global push for gender parity.

"This year, the award candidates were the strongest and represented the most diverse collection of executive professionals we have had the pleasure of evaluating," said Monica Emerson, national chair of the 23rd Women of Color STEM Conference. "From managers to vice presidents, this year's Women of Color STEM award candidates stand out as superior authorities in their respective fields."

Just a quarter of the over five million tech jobs last year were held by women, and the percentage of women of color – particularly black and Hispanic workers – in the industry stands at single digits.

The full list of award winners can be found on the next page.

The Women of Color STEM Conference is produced by Career Communications Group Inc. (CCG), the leader in workforce diversity, working with all types of companies to help support them in promoting multiculturalism and gender equity in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). For 23 years, the Women of Color STEM Conference has been a leading event for professional development and networking, and it has provided a resource for women to feel empowered.
