Seven Students Awarded $21,000 in Scholarships from Chartway Federal Credit Union

 
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - July 10, 2018 - PRLog -- $2 billion dollar Chartway Federal Credit Union is proud to announce that seven student members have been awarded $3,000 scholarships, totaling $21,000 in academic aid.

For 29 years, the credit union's Directors' Memorial Scholarship program has annually awarded scholarships to deserving student members pursuing graduate or undergraduate degrees. This year's recipients include:

• Rebecca Boelsche (Virginia) – attending James Madison University
• Heather Gambino (Virginia) – attending Longwood University
• Aubrey Grimshaw (Massachusetts) – attending Massachusetts Institute of Technology
• Brooke Meadows (Utah) – attending Snow College
• Christopher Selig (Virginia) – attending Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
• Heather Stout (Utah) – attending the Utah State University
• Patrick Willis (Virginia)  – attending Tidewater Community College

Recipients were selected on the basis of need, activities, academic performance, an essay, and a letter of reference.

"With a commitment to strengthening our communities and making life affordable for our members, we are honored to support these young leaders as they pursue their education needed to achieve long-term success," said Brian Schools, Chartway's president and chief executive officer. "We are grateful for their membership and proud of their determination, their drive, and their desire to make an impact in our communities."

The Directors' Memorial Scholarship program was created in 1989 by its board members in recognition of the credit union's success. Since its inception, the credit union has awarded more than $280,000 in student scholarships to its members.

This year, Chartway invited scholarship to submit photo essays. Brooke Meadows from St. George, Utah, wrote and recorded her own song, describing her journey and future aspirations.
