CORNELIUS, N.C. - July 13, 2018 - PRLog -- The Center for Prevention Services (CPS) is pleased to announce that we awarded funds through the Cardinal Innovations Community Reinvestment Initiative to address the growing opioid epidemic in the greater Charlotte area. CPS has been seeking additional funding opportunities to meet the rising demand for services in our community, while continuing to provide our full slate of existing programs.  We are very grateful for Cardinal's generous support.

Cardinal Innovations created the Community Reinvestment Initiative as a way to make stable, sustainable investments across its 20-county service area. Through this initiative, Cardinal Innovations asked organizations to submit proposals for programs that would improve health outcomes for its members with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health conditions, and substance use disorders.

"The goal of this effort was to identify and fund high-impact projects in our communities," said Cardinal Innovations Chief Executive Officer Trey Sutten. "We could not have been more pleased with the number of responses and the broad range of requests we received from organizations throughout our geography. We received so many innovative proposals that we actually made the decision to go beyond our original commitment—funding more than $4 million in projects. It's an investment in our members, providers and communities that is right in line with our mission."

CPS offers FREE evidence-based substance use prevention programs for schools, summer camps, after school sites, faith-based and other community settings. Services provided are for pre-school youth through high school. CPS is also establishing programs that support individuals in recovery and individuals in active use who are seeking peer support to move toward treatment, recovery, and wellness. Prevention is a process that empowers individuals to meet life's challenges by creating and reinforcing healthy behaviors and lifestyles, which reduce risk that contributes to substance use disorders. CPS provides services in six counties, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Cabarrus, Davidson, Stanly, and Union.
