Fall Classes & Workshops at The Center for Contemporary Art

BEDMINSTER, N.J. - July 19, 2018 - PRLog -- The Center for Contemporary Art is excited to announce its fall schedule of art classes and workshops which begins September 11th and runs through December. Classes are offered for artists of all ages and levels of expertise in a variety of media, including oil and acrylic paint, watercolor, drawing, photography, and ceramics. There are over forty-five classes and workshops for adults and over fifteen classes for children ages five through teens, including classes for children with special needs.

New offerings for adults at The Center this fall include "Painting Flowers in Oil" which will work from still-life floral setups to teach students the technique and materials of oil painting, featuring step-by-step instruction and demonstrations by the instructor. "Painting in Gouache" introduces students to this distinctive medium, which shares traits of both watercolor and acrylic paint and inspires a deeper understanding of color. "Realistic Charcoal Drawing" teaches students to simplify and efficiently design their compositions in terms of lights and darks for a straight-forward and versatile approach that can be applied across any wet or dry medium.

Additional fall highlights from The Center's diverse repertoire of class and workshop options include an "Introduction to Pencil Drawing," class, in which students pursue the nuances achievable through the modest pencil, and a "Plein Air Contemporary Landscape," class, which takes students out of the classroom to capture the seasonal shift in their choice of paint medium. Also available are a wide range of workshops, such as "Pysanky – Ukrainian Christmas Ornaments," "Botanical Painting in Gouache," "Painting with a Palette Knife," and "Creative Play! Comics, Cartoons, and 'Zines."

The Center also offers an Open Life Studio on Tuesday evenings with no pre-registration required. This flexible and independent environment allows artists to draw or paint from a new model each week, through a combination of gestural poses and longer sittings.

The Center's unique curriculum of children's art classes allows young artists to enroll in either overview classes that explore a broad range of media and techniques, or in-depth classes designed to deepen and develop skills in a single medium. Classes for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other special needs are offered on Monday afternoons beginning September 17, and provide guided experiences that foster communication, creativity, and problem solving with hands-on activities involving clay and paint.
