Cybersecurity Firm Tevora and Domestic Violence Shelter Laura's House Announce Partnership

Tevora and Laura's House Partner to Protect Families from Cyberstalking

LAKE FOREST, Calif. - July 25, 2018 - PRLog -- Tevora, a leading cybersecurity consulting firm and Laura's House, a domestic violence non-profit serving families in Orange County and surrounding areas, announced today a partnership to protect victims of domestic violence from the dangers of cyberstalking. Through a series of training sessions and a variety of resources and tools, Tevora will empower the Laura's House staff with the tools they need to educate victims on how to protect themselves and their families from cyberstalking and cyber harassment.

"The same technological advancements that are making lives easier for many people are also enabling abusers to use technology to frighten, harass or stalk their victims," said Laura's House CEO and executive director Margaret Bayston. "We have seen firsthand the dangers of cyberstalking and cyber harassment with our clients. Our partnership with Tevora will allow us to equip our staff with the tools and knowledge to help victims protect themselves and their loved ones from this form of abuse."

Cyberstalking as a form of abuse has increased significantly as technological advances empower abusers to use smartphones to access information from social media and GPS location to target victims.  A recent survey (https://www.npr.org/sections/alltechconsidered/2014/09/15...) by NPR found that 85 percent of victims working with a domestic abuse shelter have suffered from cyberstalking and 75 percent of those victims report abusers eavesdropping on private conversations via mobile apps.

"Laura's House does such important work for the community, and we were honored to partner together to help build cyber safety awareness," said Tevora Director of Incident Response and creator of the cyber safety toolkit, Matt Mosley. "Our mission at Tevora is to protect the world from cyber threats and it's our hope that this tool kit will empower those facing cyber abuse with the knowledge they need to protect themselves and their families.

Tevora and Laura's House are addressing this threat with a three-pronged strategy to educate and protect domestic violence victims and staff.  Due to the highly sensitive data contained by Laura's House, Tevora first conducted a penetration test in the organization's IT system to uncover any system vulnerabilities before any education or service began. Then Laura's House staff members were trained on cyber abuse protection and cybersecurity safety.

The two organizations have compiled a cyber safety toolkit to educate and empower victims to increase their safety when utilizing technology. To further educate victims and families, a blog series has been launched on www.laurashouse.org  by Tevora's Director of Incident Response Matt Mosely and Laura's House Legal Director Adam Dodge.
