MEDFORD, Ore. - Aug. 6, 2018 - PRLog -- Soup is as old as the art of cooking.  In fact, it goes back to the ages before cooking was an art at all.  Later, possibly by accident, that a few herbs made the food taste better.  La Soupe is the name given to the evening meal in parts of rural France.  The French have soup always simmering on the stove into which the housewife/cook throws herbs, vegetable tag ends, and meat bones.  All the flavors are extracted and blended during the long slow cooking.

Each nation has its own special soups, rich in chunks of meat, hearty vegetables, rice or noodles.  Such soups have long since been celebrated in song and story.  Some even as cures of various ailments, like the soup called "Restaurant" which was popular in the 16th Century France.  People believed it had restorative posters.  A chef would print his name over the door to tell all he was serving it.  In time "restaurant" came to mean a place where all kinds foods are served.

Southern Oregon restauranteur, Spoons, serves one such soup called Chicken Pozole aka Family Celebration Soup.  The Pozole Celebration Soup has generous portions of chicken, hominy, tomatoes, and beans in a hearty chicken stock seasoned chili powder and lime juice.  Topped with radish slaw and sour cream makes for a great yummy party.

Spoons offers customers thirty different soups, in a two-week rotation, throughout the winter months. In the summer, five lively chilled soups are added to the mix. A typical lunch includes: a soup-of-the-day paired with a unique and beautifully constructed salad; one of several homemade gluten-free breads; a couple of "noshes," and the option to add a really big, "pounder potato," filled with Vegan or non-Vegan toppings.  The menu changes from day-to-day.  Daily menus for both locations are posted on the restaurant's Facebook pages.

Spoons specializes in fresh, local, non-GMO dishes.  Daily Vegan and non-Vegan soups, salads that are unique to them, gluten-free breads and noshes that are sometimes hard to find; as well as a number of meat-based dishes and sides like some of the incredible hearty meat stews and loaded baked potatoes.
Saturday soups change depending upon what's left in the fridge.  Chef, Merrie Bechtold, creates a new menu every Saturday at the Central Point location.  Chilled soups are served individually or with an entrĂ©e.

Spoons is open from 11:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday-through-Friday - or, until the soup is gone.  Central Point location is also opened from noon to 4:00 pm on Saturdays and offers entrees, casseroles, desserts and other nutritional fare.
