VANCEBURG, Ky. - Aug. 13, 2018 - PRLog -- Trace Creek Construction, a construction management and general contracting firm located in Vanceburg, Kentucky, has been recognized by the Kentucky Labor Cabinet for its exemplary health and safety record.

Trace Creek received the Governor's Safety and Health Award on August 8, 2018, in a ceremony at the site of the Central Elementary School in Vanceburg, currently under construction. The award, presented by Kentucky Labor Cabinet Deputy Secretary Mike Nemes, recognizes Kentucky construction firms for their achievements in maintaining a safe, healthy work space.

With more than 305,907 hours worked without experiencing a lost time injury or illness, Trace Creek easily qualified for the award. David West, President of Trace Creek, and Superintendent Steve Bivens accepted the award on behalf of their team.

"Our goal isn't fewer injuries," said West. "Our goal is to have no injuries. We're honored to receive this very important award, and to be recognized by the Kentucky Labor Cabinet for creating a safe workspace for everyone on site."

In the past, Deputy Secretary Nemes worked in the construction field, so he knows firsthand how important safety is on the construction site. "Safety is important and everybody has to buy into it," he said. "The employees have to buy in. If they don't, it doesn't work."

"Safety isn't just about the workplace," West said. "It impacts the families of everyone on the job site. The bottom line is that we want all of our employees and trades to return home safely every night. That's the reason why we make sure that everyone on site focuses on safety, every minute of the day."

Trace Creek takes an active role in promoting workplace safety, and West is quick to acknowledge that this award is a result of a combined effort to focus on safety. "I'm proud of every single person on our job sites," West said. "It's because of their diligence that we are able to accept this award on their behalf."

The ceremony was attended by Trace Creek executives and staff, as well as Jamie Weddington, Superintendent of Lewis County Schools; Todd Ruckel, Lewis County Judge Executive; Joe Billman, Vanceburg Chief of Police; Johnny Bivens, Lewis County Sheriff; and Mike Mineer, President of Citizens Deposit Bank. After the award presentation, the group received a tour of the new Central Elementary School, currently under construction by Trace Creek.
