In a time when elders have lost their connection with Nature and their original earth-centered traditions and lineages, the gathered elders will use their years of life experience, their perspective, wisdom, and resources to contribute to the healing of their world. Examining elderhood and their pivotal role in restoring the life-sustaining legacy for future generations and all life, they will explore their passions and skills to effect change and to build relationships for a thriving future. In the morning the attendees will explore together how to reclaim their Elders' moral voice – the voice that speaks for the welfare of all, protecting their grandchildren, restoring Mother Earth, and regenerating a flourishing world. There will be opportunities for truth-telling about the state of the world and acknowledging the felt pain and gratitude. With a particular focus on the unjust effects on planetary life support systems, and on communities most at risk from climate chaos, those gathered will share their dreams of transforming their society towards health, justice, peace, and cooperation. Following lunch, in the afternoon session, the participants will face the reality of the changing climate and the positive solutions available to combat this threat to all life. Speaking will be Elders who have developed successful community organizing methods. They will divide into small groups by interest and region to address climate action, social justice, intergenerational collaboration, or other themes to create action plans to take the necessary next steps. It's 3:23 in the morning and I'm awake, because my great, great grandchildren …ask me in dreams, "What did you do while the planet was plundered?" poet, Drew Dellinger "with more-" "Our fellow elders often ask: "What are our options?" For the two of us, it is participating as fully as possible— giving back our time-tested skills, wisdom, attention, and energy to cure the needful social and environmental sicknesses threatening our human community and Earth herself," says Libby and Len Traubman, on Leadership team of Conscious Elders Network. "Certainly, as a person of the "60s", I was committed to leaving behind what I heard as "moral preaching" about what I should do, how I should live my life—which seemed to limit my freedom and, more importantly, felt like an externally-imposed morality... Fifty years later, I am disappointed that my generation has not achieved our goals. We seem to have lost the moral underpinnings that support our shared values. I wish to reclaim my moral voice and do so as an elder." says Lynne Iser, Co-convener, Elder Activists for Social Justice/Conscious Elders Network.
