Follow on Google News | Banasthali Celebrates 72nd India Independence DayThe bright sunshine and humid Banasthali weather was no deterrent for the students of world's largest fully residential women's university who ensured that 72nd Independence Day was indeed celebrated with patriotic fervor, gaiety and enthusiasm.
By: Banasthali On 15th Aug 2018, for the 72nd Independence Day at Banasthali, Prof Aditya Shastri Vice Chancellor unfurled the tiranga which was followed by singing of the National Anthem. After the customary parade inspection, he took the salute for the marching groups of students from Saraswati Mandir, Sharda Mandir, Banasthali Seva Dal, Scout, NSS, Banasthali Band, Flying Club, Horse Riding Club. The march past also included students carrying flags to represent different states of India as well as different countries where Banasthali has collaborative arrangements. Sharda Mandir had also hosted a colourful cultural program to mark the occasion. Highly acclaimed alumnus of Birla Institute of Technology and Science - BITS Pilani, SUNY Stony Brook and MIT Boston USA, Prof Aditya Shastri Vice Chancellor Banasthali in his address to the mammoth gathering of students today talked of what freedom means in the modern world. Citing example of the star badminton player PV Sindhu, he emphasized on the device we are slave to in the modern world namely the mobile phone. He also tried to make the students see that discipline is not a hindrance to freedom but is the real freedom. He said that freedom in the true sense can only be achieved if one is free from all the worldly sufferings, because pain is inevitable if you're living, but suffering is a choice. On graduation, he said that student had the freedom to choose the profession they liked or the one they were good at or the one where salaries were good. When the celebrations ended with singing of Vande Mataram, the students and faculty who had come for the function left with beaming faces and pride that they were indeed part of an institution which is a jewel in the crown among the women's universities not only in India today but across the globe.
