Medal of Honor Society and Foundation Character Development Program The Bob Hope Award was established in 2003 by President George W. Bush on the occasion of Bob Hope's 100th birthday and honors an individual in the entertainment industry who has gone above and beyond to support our nation's military. This year's award will go to Dye for his excellence in support of those who serve, through his extensive work in the entertainment industry as an actor, author, director, and producer. More than twenty years ago, Dye arrived in Hollywood with a singular vision: to change how worldwide audiences viewed military men and women past and present. His avowed goal was to ensure American military men and women got the much-deserved and long-overdue honor they deserve in popular media depictions. Over the years, Dye, founder of Warriors Inc., has been the go-to military adviser for top-flight filmmakers including Oliver Stone, Steven Spielberg, Robert Zemeckis, Barry Levinson, and a long list of other show business luminaries. He has been credited as changing the way Hollywood makes war movies, serving as Military Advisor on a number of Academy Award and Emmy winning productions. Some of the most recognizable productions for which he advised both cast and crew include Platoon, Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, The Pacific and many more. Dye's most recent film project, No Better Place to Die, a World War II D-Day movie that he describes an airborne epic concerning the American soldiers who jumped into Normandy prior to the infamous surface landings on Omaha and Utah Beaches, is currently in pre-production and should begin shooting in Spring of next year. Tom Hanks is the film's Executive Producer. Dye has said he plans to use as many real military veterans as possible both in front of and behind the cameras. As an author, Dye has published 12 acclaimed novels including the File Series of action-adventure books featuring Marine Gunner Shake Davis as well as a number of award-winning works of military fiction. Past recipients of the Medal of Honor Bob Hope Award for Excellence in Entertainment include Gary Sinise, Bill Mauldin, Tom Selleck, Jon Voight and Stephen Ambrose.
