ATHENS, Ga. - Oct. 2, 2018 - PRLog -- Fantasy author William Timothy Murray is one of the featured poets selected to give readings at the upcoming Winterville Art Exhibition.   There will also be featured readings from accomplished poets Natalie Malone, Jack Eisenman, Tony Tolbert, and Shirley Wright.   Murray, who is known for his fantasy The Year of the Red Door, will be reading poems that are not a part of his fantasy writing.

"Very few authors and writers that I know of are one-trick ponies," Murray says.   "Some write in several genres and forms, and others are artists, teachers, musicians, or master craftsmen.   It is so nice to be recognized in this way, and an honor to be doing this reading with the other poets."

This will be Murray's first public reading of any of his poems, so he is somewhat nervous about it.   He has refrained from doing any public readings at all up to this point.

"I thought this would be a good for me, so I submitted some samples.   I was really surprised that I was one of the poets selected, given the caliber of poets on tap.  Yes, it does take me out of my comfort zone just a tad," he says.   "But I'm always a bit nervous when I'm up in front of an audience, no matter what I'm doing up there."

Murray will be reading two poems, "Letters" and "Telltales," that are filled with metaphors and symbolism.   One is ostensibly about letter-writing, but conveys a sense of desire for understanding that we all feel at times.   The other poem is about sailing, but through the use of nautical terms it is a metaphor for those times in our our lives when change is happening, times during which we look back on the past and look ahead for signs of what is to come.

The poetry reading is part of the Artist's Reception taking place on October 5 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the Winterville Center for Community and Culture.  Readings are expected to begin at 6:00pm. The event is free and open to the public.
