PREMIERE: Dance of the Spider Woman — A Star-Studded Short Horror Film by the Martinez Twins

Award-winning horror filmmakers, the Martinez Twins, team up with superstar DJ tyDi and special guest performers from ABC's 'Dancing with the Stars' to create a seductive short horror film that combines dance, demons and deceit.

LOS ANGELES - Oct. 16, 2018 - PRLog -- The Martinez Twins, award-winning horror writer-directors Joseph and Will Martinez, announced their next short horror film "Dance of the Spider Woman" will premiere on their YouTube channel at 12:01 a.m. EST Oct. 19.

This sexy and surprising 7-minute short stars and follows Nick Baga (La La Land) as The Husband on a late-night dog walk when he discovers The Woman co-star Yesenia Adame (Angels & Demons) in the window of a decrepit old house. Her enchanting beauty and strange dance keep him coming back. What does this mysterious woman in the window want and what will happen if she gets it?

"We can't wait to share this film with the world," said Will. "We adapted one of my favorite stories. It's based on a short story Hanns Heinz Ewers wrote in 1908 titled "The Spider". It's been a tale I've wanted to retell for some time but never tackled. Then, Joseph came up with the push it needed."

Joseph entered the team in the "AT&T SHAPE 48-hour Create-a-thon" short-film competition. Competition rules required the film to be shot, edited and completed within a strict 48-hour time window.

"The deadline was a challenge we welcomed as the film quickly became an exciting passion project for us both," said Joseph.

With less than two weeks to prepare for their 48-hour horror film production the Art Center College of Design graduates decided to split production duties. Will, who majored in Illustration, found inspiration in Dario Argento's 1977 film "Suspiria" and went to work designing the look and feel of the film with storyboards and concept art.

"We knew we wanted to reimagine this story using music, dance, and light," said Will.

Joseph, a Screenwriting major, quickly scribed the screenplay and challenged himself to tell the story using as little dialogue as possible.

"Once we agreed The Woman would perform a sultry and seductive dance, we knew exactly who we wanted cast," said Joseph. "Will and I have been friends with Yesenia since we attended Los Angeles County Highschool of the Arts. Today, she's a renowned Salsa dancer and we wanted her to use her dance skills to wordlessly entrance the audience."

Adame, the film's chorographer, and Baga are both dancers most known for their special guest appearances on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars". Dancer/Actor Nick Baga came recommended by Adame as the lead for the project.

"Music became the dialogue in this film," said Joseph. "With so little said, it was up to the actors and the composer to tell the bulk of the emotional story. Music for our short was composed by acclaimed Australian DJ Tyson Illingworth (DJ tyDi), whose electronic music tracks have topped dance charts around the world."

Successful completion and submission of "Dance of the Spider Woman" proved to be a creative springboard for Will and Joseph. They have gone on to expanded the Spider Woman universe into an anthology horror television series idea titled "The Condemned."

"Joe and I couldn't help ourselves," said Will. "We talked on the phone for hours creating the backstory of the spider. We realized there was a deep well of story yet to be told and we came up with a clever never-before-seen device of telling it. We can't wait to pitch!"

The Martinez Twins have made two other award-winning short horror films, "Knock" starring Arielle Brachfeld and Noelle Ann Mabry, and "I See You" starring China's Celina Jade (Arrow, Wolf Warrior 2).

Their next short horror project is a virtual reality film about betrayal and murder, told from the point-of-view of a housekeeping robot.
