Announces New Members to Serve on Board of DirectorsMary Carter Mary Carter received a Bachelor of Music Education/Music Therapy from Indiana University and has a master's degree in Special Education from the University of Cincinnati. She taught Special Education for 23 years in the state of Ohio. She has also served as a church organist and piano accompanist. Her husband is an architect and they have two children and two grandchildren. Mary is retired and enjoys genealogy research, helping others tell their life story and is a leader in small group spiritual direction. She served on the Hilton Head First Presbyterian Day School Board for several years and has been a Stephen Minister Lay visitor and choir member. Her favorite children's book is The Giving Tree. Pamela Flasch South Carolina native Pamela McNeely Flasch recently celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of reading her first book – One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish. The date coincides with the birth of her baby sister, Kimberly, and she read the book while waiting patiently for Kim to arrive. Pam is the communications manager for the Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority. After graduating from the University of South Carolina, Pam has worked in the field of advertising and public relations for more than 30 years. A former planning commissioner and town council member in Luray, VA, she currently serves on the Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce board, on the communications committee of the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) and on the tristate (SC/NC/GA) Confluence Conference committee. She will also serve as the vice-president of communications for the SC Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (SCPRSA) for 2019. Pam is a proud Army/SC Army National Guard wife to Mark Flasch, who is now a local jazz pianist. She enjoys the beach, hiking and acting in community theater. Pam's best role is that of mother and mother-in-law to Anna and Nic Wolford of Greenville. Her favorite childhood book is Charlotte's Webb, and she still hears the words in the voice of her beloved fourth-grade teacher, who read from it every day after lunch. Melissa St. Clair Melissa St. Clair is the owner of Paper Chaser. A military spouse who wanted to thrive professionally alongside her U.S. Marine, launched a portable career as a Virtual Assistant (VA). She led a project to install three Little Free Libraries in Family Housing areas for military families stationed in Beaufort, SC when serving as a past Book Club Chairperson for the Parris Island Spouses Club. Her favorite childhood book is Charlotte's Web. The Board of Directors at Born To Read, Inc. provides leadership in carrying out the mission to promote early childhood literacy and language development while helping new parents understand their critical role as their child's first and foremost important teacher.
