Follow on Google News | Fostering Hope receives $5,000 from Sky Ranch FoundationFostering Hope brings together volunteers and other community partners who provide practical, relational and emotional support for foster families and foster youth who "age out" or emancipate from the child welfare system at age 18. Using a Trauma-Informed model that focuses on stability, enrichment and connections, Fostering Hope tries to promote healing for kids who have suffered abuse and neglect and help them become productive citizens as they grow up. The $5,000 grant will help fund the professional coordination, insurance, background checks and other operational needs required to serve roughly a third of El Paso County's foster families and more than 100 children, including 30 who are aging out of care. From volunteer teams who support foster families, to jobs and transitional housing, the goal is to help these kids experience what most people take for granted – self-worth, trust, safety and family. "In the 12 years since Fostering Hope began, we are starting to see long-term outcomes," said Executive Director Angela Carron, MD. "All of our kids have graduated or attained GEDs, compared to just a third of foster children nationally. They are holding down jobs and avoiding the homelessness and jail so common for these young adults. This wonderful grant will help us to continue to change the abysmal outcomes associated with foster care. We are so grateful." The Sky Ranch Foundation was established in 1961 and is supported by the Beverage Alcohol Industry. Since 2011, it has awarded more than $3.3 million in grants.
