ATLANTA - Dec. 18, 2018 - PRLog -- Johnnie Ray Kornegay III, Artistic Director of Staticc Art & Life, has signed on to produce a documentary by director by Alvin Agarrat about the lives of Black gay and trans-masculine men living with HIV. Filming begins at the top of 2019. Dubbed "Project Griot," the project and documentary is being presented and lead by non-profit organization THRIVE SS, with the film as a core outcome.

The importance of this film isn't lost on Kornegay. "As a storyteller, and someone who has dedicated a significant portion of my life to advocating for folks living with HIV, I don't take lightly the task of producing this film. As a Black gay man, my art, life and experiences have been influenced by artists who lived with HIV such as Marlon Riggs, Sylvester and Essex Hemphill. It's my honor to help bring these men's stories to the screen with dignity and beauty."

"Project Griot" will follow the lives of these men as they discover, through the power of their own stories, their resilience and strength. According to THRIVE SS,  "Having the opportunity to tell our stories from our mouths is something we are anxious and excited to share with our community."

The, as yet untitled, documentary will have a Summer 2019 release.
