PolyU honours five distinguished personalities at the 24th Congregation

HUNG HOM, Hong Kong - Oct. 29, 2018 - PRLog -- Presided by the Chancellor of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and HKSAR Chief Executive, The Hon Mrs Carrie LAM CHENG Yuet-ngor, PolyU Council Chairman Mr T C CHAN and PolyU President Professor Timothy W. TONG, the 24th Congregation held yesterday saw the conferment of Honorary Doctorates upon five prominent figures and doctoral degrees on 414 graduates. The ceremony was held in the Jockey Club Auditorium on the university campus.

The five honorary degree recipients this year include (in alphabetical order of last name):

• Dr the Hon Victor FUNG Kwok-king, GBM, GBS, Group Chairman of the Fung Group
• Dr Kigge Mai HVID, Founder of Danish design studio JA
• Professor WANG Shuguo, President of Xi'an Jiaotong University
• Ir WONG Tit-shing, Chairman of Jetta Company Limited
• Dr Annie WU Suk-ching, SBS, JP, Honorary Chairman of Beijing Air Catering Company Limited

PolyU President Professor TONG expressed heartfelt thanks to Hong Kong's Chief Executive, the Hon Mrs Carrie LAM for her continued support to PolyU. In extending his congratulations to the honorary doctorates and graduates, President TONG encouraged the graduates to do well, excel their chosen profession and be a socially responsible global citizen. "We all have a choice to make Hong Kong, the place we call home, better. If we can see things from a broader perspective, embrace changes, tolerate differences, and be ready to work towards a common goal, we can achieve what Mrs Lam pledged in her 2018 policy address: 'Striving Ahead, Rekindling Hope'. Our society is looking forward to having you to shape the future," added President TONG.

The University has conferred a total of 10,277 academic honours this year, including 309 Doctor of Philosophy, 105 discipline-based Doctor's degree, 50 Master of Philosophy, 3,697 Master's degree, 5,355 Bachelor's degree, 45 postgraduate diploma and certificate, and 711 sub-degree award.
