Most Powerful Supercomputer in the Nordic Region Enters TOP500By: ClusterVision The Intel-based system reached a performance of one petaflop on the High Performance Linpack (HPL) benchmark, coming in at position 421 on the TOP500. The theoretical peak performance will eventually reach 4.0 petaflops.Built by ClusterVision, Tetralith has 60,544 cores and will amplify Sweden's capacity for scientific research and discovery. The Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing (SNIC) provides all researchers in Sweden with access to the cluster. Tetralith replaces the centre's previous flagship cluster, Triolith. The second installation phase of Tetralith is currently ongoing. The first users accessed the cluster in September. The full cluster will go into production in January 2019. Most of the research done on the cluster will be in the fields of materials science, fluid dynamics, quantum chemistry, and bioinformatics. ClusterVision has had over twenty entries on the TOP500 since the first list debuted in 2005. Besides Tetralith, the current list also includes two other ClusterVision installations: Past TOP500 lists have included clusters at HPC Midlands Plus, Technische Universität Wien, Max-Planck-Gesellschaft MPI / Albert-Einstein- About NSC Linköping The National Supercomputer Centre in Sweden (NSC) provides leading edge high performance computing resources and support to users throughout Sweden. NSC is an independent center within Linköping University. NSC is funded by the Swedish Research Council via SNIC (Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing). NSC also has long term partnerships with SAAB (the aerospace and defense company), SMHI (the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute), and MET Norway (the Norwegian Meteorological Institute). About ClusterVision ClusterVision specialises in high performance computing (HPC) solutions. HPC accelerates discovery.
