By: Suburban Cowboy Records The humorous novelty song by country-roots singer/songwriter Grant Maloy Smith, featuring teen country music sensation EmiSunshine, is about possums that save Christmas, after Rudolph gets sick. Both a country version and a bluegrass version are available. Though sold through iTunes, Amazon and other consumer digital outlets since September, the single is now available to radio stations through Play MPE, a broadcast distribution service. Reaction thus far has been positive, from both sides of the Atlantic. Marie Crichton, host of "Marie Crichton's Country Show" on the BBC, called it "a great, fun song." Other broadcasters and critics are equally enthusiastic. "New Christmas songs abound but good ones with a new story that captures the magic do not… 'Fly Possum Fly' is one of the good ones," said Steve Martin, host of the syndicated radio program "Unreal Bluegrass" and winner of the International Bluegrass Music Association Broadcaster of the Year award. Meanwhile, Tim White, host of the "The Tim White Bluegrass Show" and "Song of the Mountains," said, "I have always enjoyed novelty tunes that bring a smile to a person's face and this tune sure does that." "Grant Maloy Smith and EmiSunshine have provided a fun 'Possum' infused twist to Santa Claus and his sleigh," said Eric Dahl, host of "Rock & Review" on FOX 17 in Nashville. "If this song doesn't make you smile then your last name may be Scrooge." Grant Maloy Smith, meanwhile, is known for his critically acclaimed 2017 album "Dust Bowl – American Stories." His credits also include the nationally syndicated public television music series "WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour" and "Song of the Mountains." In addition to being a song, "Fly Possum Fly" is a colorful children's book, which Smith wrote and illustrated. Published by Headline Books, Inc., "Fly Possum Fly" was introduced at the Southern Festival of Books in Nashville, with subsequent promotional appearances including the West Virginia Book Festival, the Connecticut Children's Book Fair, the Southern Christmas Show in Charlotte, North Carolina, and several bookstores throughout the Southeast. "Fly Possum Fly" has earned praise from parents and teachers. Diane Marx, the 2018 Virginia Reading Teacher of the Year, called it "a diverse Christmas story that will be loved across generations for its uniqueness and simple humor." The book version of "Fly Possum Fly" can be ordered through Amazon and Barnes & Noble. The song is available through iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby and Spotify, and to radio stations through Play MPE: http://daily.plaympe.com/ End
