BalletNova Nutcracker Opens November 29

Season includes theatrical and pre-school performances, community outreach and education programs

FALLS CHURCH, Va. - Nov. 21, 2018 - PRLog -- BalletNova Center for Dance is pleased to announce it will bring a newly enhanced production of its version of The Nutcracker to Falls Church audiences for the first time this holiday season. Performances of The Nutcracker will take place at the George Mason High School Theatre.

BalletNova's redesigned Nutcracker will feature new choreography by several BalletNova faculty members including Principal of the Pre-Professional Division Constance Walsh, Maria Watson, Shu-Chen Cuff and Carmen Perez. This is the first time BalletNova's The Nutcracker has been re-choreographed since 2004.

"Nancie Woods and Caroline Frankil Warren created a magical Nutcracker for us to continue to perform year after year in 2004," Walsh said. "I cannot begin to express thanks to the incredible faculty that have enthusiastically joined in the creating of this year's Nutcracker. It's a thrill to provide our young people with the opportunity to show their versatility as dancers while introducing them to the experience of creating new choreography that will be passed on to others in the coming years."

The production will also feature new costumes and additional characters. BalletNova's in-house costume mistress Sally Finley spent over 600 hours designing and creating costumes for the roles of the Nutcracker, Snow Queen, the snow corps, snow sprites, Chinese and Arabian divertissements and Drosselmeyer's Faeries. New characters include the Governess (played by Alex Miegel), Harlequin Doll (played by BalletNova student Daniel Rodriguez) and a restructured Arabian pas de deux, featuring Zachary Scott Jr. and BalletNova student Megan Fuglestad.

BalletNova's Nutcracker season includes: free performances in partnership with Barnes & Noble; Girl Scout education programs, community outreach performances, six theatre performances, four pre-school Petite shows and two Nutcracker Teas at the Ritz-Carlton, Pentagon City.

This year BalletNova welcomes special guest Cavalier, Kenny Corrigan:

Kenny Corrigan is a native of Southwick, Massachusetts, currently residing in New York City as a freelance dancer. Kenny was featured on season 9 of Americas Got Talent with the group Bad Boys of Ballet, who made it all the way to the Semi-Finals.  He has studied in various forms of dance from acrobatics and ballet, to tap, jazz and hip-hop. Kenny attended Point Park University as a BFA with a modern dance concentration. During his time at PPU, and at summer intensives at Dance Theatre of Harlem, Kenny was fortunate to study under the direction of Peter Merz, Susan Stowe, Robert Garland, David Nash, Dana Arey, Kwang Suk Choi, Ernest Tolentino, Laura Halzack and Bernie Courtney.
