By: Sub Sea Research Sub Sea Research made headlines back in 2014 when their claim to the British cargo ship the SS Port Nicholson was revoked by the Federal court. They were fought by the British government, who were ultimately were unable to present any evidence of their claim to the wreck, and later by the American government, who seized the company's research and assets. The wreck still lays untouched off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Sub Sea Research was in business for nearly 20 years before the controversy, working on a number of underwater recovery projects along the east coast of the United States and in the Caribbean. The company also organized extensive relief efforts and supply deliveries during coastal disasters, most notably Hurricane Katrina and the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Greg Brooks of Sub Sea Research is motivated to recover the wrecks to set up humanitarian efforts in his home state of Maine, and to repay those who invested in the unfinished Port Nicholson recovery. "The British spent over a million dollars litigating us and lost" he says. "Then the US government came forward to stop us, which they did, for no legal reason almost 4 years ago!" "Still no charges to this day". With billions of dollars in gold on these shipwrecks, it makes sense to recover it now. The right equipment will make recovery somewhat easier. The company is currently accruing additional research and data on the various wrecks and will be looking at those on the Atlantic coast first to narrow down what could be the most feasible and the most lucrative. They are seeking partners for the project and are hopeful that potential recovery could take place in the 2019 season or sooner. https://shiprex.net/ End
