Follow on Google News | Jimmie Dean Coffey Wins Indiana Auctioneers Association Auctioneer Championship"I've competed in this competition several times over the 34 years of being an auctioneer. I've been 1st runner up a couple of times and as well as reserve champion. I have been so close, but with no cigar until now," said Coffey. "I knew that I was going into this year's competition in the right frame of mind. I said I was going to go up there and have fun and just be Jimmie Dean. Did I think I was going to win? No. Was I hoping to win? Absolutely." The competition consisted of a two-question interview about the auction industry and selling four items to the crowd. The judges based their decision on the contestant's poise, appearance, delivery, clarity, speed, rhythm and over all bid calling and salesmanship abilities. He competed against 18 other auctioneers total five qualifying for the finals. He will now represent the state of Indiana at the International Auctioneers Championship at the National Auctioneer's Association Conference and Show next July in New Orleans. The win adds to his induction into the Indiana State Auctioneers Hall of Fame in 2013. "I officially clinched both of the highest awards in Indiana for auctioneers. I never even dreamed this would happen. I just got into the business and here I am," said Coffey. "I'm very humbled and thankful for a great team behind me who has helped me accomplish these awards."
