Products that are not blanched or cooked, but which have a high core temperature, can also be pre-chilled, in order to allow an efficient freezing.

This process will also chill the product to the lowest possible temperature before freezing since it is much cheaper for producers to drop the temperature in the chiller rather than in the freezer.

The PHE efficiently chills the water inside the machinery to 1 degree Celsius, while after each filtered cycle the temperature difference is less than 3 degrees Celsius, therefore requiring minimal energy in order to rechill the water. This considerably reduces the energy consumption inside the chiller.

Last but not least, water consumption is caused only by the water pick up on the product, which normally ranges between 5% and 10% of the production capacity.
