Sleep Specialist launches Telemedicine Program to expand patient outreach

SAN DIEGO - Dec. 19, 2018 - PRLog -- Rancho Neurology and Sleep Medicine, Inc. in partnership with direct-to-consumer telehealth platform OnDemand Visit, launched a virtual telemedicine sleep apnea screening program in hopes to expand outreach and provide care for patients with sleep apnea issues who do not live within the provider's radius.

The Telemedicine-based virtual-visit platform will expand patient outreach for the Rancho Neurology clinic beyond local southern California, as well as provide access to care for patients who live outside the 60-100 miles radius.

Rancho Neurology and Sleep Medicine, along with OnDemand Visit, are particularly interested in helping those in the trucking industry that might have sleep problems such as sleep apnea. Fleet driver must pass a sleep apnea screening in order to maintain their licenses.

A study sponsored by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and the American Transportation Research Institute of the American Trucking Associations found that 28 percent of commercial truck drivers have mild to severe sleep apnea.

FMCSA regulations do not specifically address sleep apnea, but they do advise that a person with a medical history or diagnosis of any condition likely to interfere with their ability to drive safely, such as sleep apnea, cannot be medically qualified to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) in interstate commerce.

The program aims to break any communication barriers between patients and providers allowing them to connect in a much more efficient way. It also promotes positive health outcomes, by improving patient access and convenience.
