CAMP HILL, Pa. - Jan. 22, 2019 - PRLog -- The Woods at Cedar Run senior living community will host "Senior Gems: A Dementia Care Workshop" on Tuesday, Jan. 29.

The lunch-and-learn style event presented by Bobbi Emanuel with Senior Helpers will begin at 11 a.m. at The Woods, located at 824 Lisburn Road in Camp Hill. A light lunch will be provided. To reserve a seat, call 717.737.3373.

Attendees will learn how to positively impact the care of a person with dementia using the Senior Gems, a propriety program developed by Senior Helpers and dementia expert Teepa Snow. The goal is to provide a better understanding of various types and stages of dementia-related disorders and how to provide the best care and support for individuals with dementia.

"We are very excited to be hosting this eye-opening presentation on a disease that is only going to become more prevalent in the future," said Malory Lyter, Marketing Assistant at The Woods at Cedar Run. "Many family members find themselves suddenly thrown into this world, and without the tools they need to help their loved one navigate this journey. It is our goal to provide ongoing education and support to our residents, family members and the public."

According to the SeniorHelpers.com website, the Senior Gems, created by Senior Helpers, is based on the Gems, techniques, strategies, and overall approach to care which was created and developed by Teepa Snow, Positive Approach, LLC. It is a method for identifying the characteristics of aging, from normal aging through the early and late-stage dementia with which many seniors are now facing.

This classification system allows trained Senior Helpers caregivers to identify the characteristics of different stages of dementia and understand what a person can still do based on a gem level and using specific strategies to care for our seniors. Additionally, the Senior Gems program enables Senior Helpers to create the best plan for caring for the individual long term, according to the website.
