PHILADELPHIA - Feb. 6, 2019 - PRLog -- On Thursday, February 21, 2019, Councilmember At-Large, Derek Green will make his formal announcement for re-election, at the Center in the Park in Germantown, at 6pm.

As a member of Council, Green has combined experienced leadership and a commitment to enhancing the quality of life in Philadelphia. Some of his legislative initiatives include: passing legislation that amended the City's Home Rule Charter to enable small and local companies to do more business with the City (Best Value); establishing a Tourism Improvement District to create more jobs in the City's hospitality industry; strengthening the City's Fair Practices Ordinance so that businesses that persistently discriminate can be closed, and establishing the Philadelphia Business Lending Network to help increase growth for local businesses, through better access to loans. Green has also spearheaded and provided leadership to improve the city's water and sewer systems, public school facilities, and pollution. "As our country continues to face challenges that impacts many constituents in our City, it's important as a public servant, to continue to provide the leadership needed to help move Philadelphia forward. I'm committed to continue my mission to help provide and support resources for job development, quality public education and facilities, and most importantly work to help our city get out of poverty," states Green.

In addition to his public service career, Green has been a small business owner and Assistant Branch Manager in North Philadelphia with Meridian Bank and a faculty coach for the Center for Progressive Leadership. As a community leader, Green is the former President of East Mt. Airy Neighbors and the Center in the Park and was a board member of several organizations including Mt. Airy USA CDC and the Green Tree School & Services. For his ongoing community efforts and work, Green has been recognized by various organizations and businesses throughout Philadelphia. He was selected as a Lawyer on the Fast Track by the Pennsylvania Law Weekly, an Outstanding Community Leader by Cheyney University, a Distinguished Leader by the Community College of Philadelphia, and as one of the region's key 101 connectors and leaders by Leadership Philadelphia. Green has also been a leader in the autism community, where he currently chairs the Committee on Disabilities and leads the Philadelphia Autism Project.
