RALEIGH, N.C. - April 1, 2019 - PRLog -- Lab coats will be taking over the General Assembly on Wednesday, April 3, as more than a thousand nurses and nurse advocates descend on Raleigh for the 2019 Nurses Day at the Legislature. The North Carolina Nurses Association (NCNA) is encouraging nurses to get involved with advocacy issues, talk to their elected officials, and help ensure that legislators consider nurses' perspective during policy debates that impact patient care. The highlight of the day will be a legislative rally on Halifax Mall at 12:45 pm.

Nurses Day at the Legislature will begin at the Raleigh Convention Center for an advocacy-themed continuing education program before 1,100+ nurses and nursing students make their way to Jones Street. Keynoting the program will be very special guest and president of the American Nurses Association, Ernest Grant, PhD, RN, FAAN. As a North Carolina resident, a past president of NCNA, an internationally-recognized expert, and a dynamic speaker, Dr. Grant will be one of the most-anticipated speakers NCNA has had for this biannual event.

"Nurses are getting more involved in policy and that is great news for patients," said NCNA CEO Tina Gordon. "We are showing the next generation of nurses that patients need them to be active caregivers. Healthcare policy is evolving faster than ever and it is vital for nurses to be there to help shape the regulations that directly affect millions of people across North Carolina."

Among the healthcare issues that nurses plan to discuss with legislators on Wednesday are the SAVE Act (https://ncnurses.org/about-ncna/latest-news/nc-legislator...), closing the coverage gap, school nurse funding, and nurse workforce concerns.
