"The challenge is to continually prove the integrity of an organisation's operational practices and then be willing to have everything checked and measured by an independent third party," Mr Moore said. Since 2008, a total of 78 IHCL hotels have achieved EarthCheck Certification and generated significant savings: ✔ Conserved 2.38 billion litres of potable water, which is equivalent to 953 Olympic swimming pools. ✔ Minimised waste sent to landfill by recycling 12.1 million litres of waste, which is equivalent to 366 20ft. shipping containers. ✔ Reduced greenhouse gas emissions including 205,591 tonnes of carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to taking 68,990 cars off the road. ✔ Saved 1,059 million megajoules of energy which is equivalent to the energy consumption of 44,481 houses (typically 4 person households in a developed country).
