Follow on Google News | Charley Pride to Perform for Sold Out Crowd at Mill Town Music HallCountry Music Legend will sing from his extensive catalog of hit songs on May 4
By: Mill Town Music Hall As a young man, Charley Pride was exposed primarily to blues, gospel and country music. His father fostered Charley's love of country music by tuning the family's Philco radio to Nashville's WSM-AM, in order to catch Grand Ole Opry broadcasts. At 14 years of age, Charley purchased his first guitar, a Silvertone from a Sears Roebuck catalog and taught himself how to play it by listening to the songs on the radio. Pride became a minor league and semi-pro baseball player. Charley often passed the time between ballparks by entertaining teammates. He sang and played his guitar on the team bus. With the help of people like Red Sovine, Red Foley, and Jack Johnson, Charley Pride quickly became country music's first African-American superstar in the late 60s. Between 1967 and 1987, he amassed 52 Top-10 Country hits and went on to sell tens of millions of records worldwide. During the 70s, he won three Grammy Awards, as well as the CMA's "Entertainer of the Year" award and their "Top Male Vocalist" award twice. His #1 crossover hit "Kiss an Angel Good Mornin'" sold over a million singles. Some of Charley's unforgettable hits from his 1960s, 1970s and early 1980s include "All I Have To Offer You Is Me," "Is Anybody Goin' To San Antone," "Amazing Love,'" "Mississippi Cotton Pickin' Delta Town," "'Burgers and Fries," "Roll On Mississippi" Tickets for Charley Pride's concert are sold out, but fans are encouraged to purchase tickets for other concerts at Mill Town Music Hall through TicketsWest at (888) 479-6300, online at www.MillTownMusicHall.com or at the Mill Town Music Hall box office.
