BEDMINSTER, N.J. - April 18, 2019 - PRLog -- The Center for Contemporary Art ("The Center") is pleased to announce an improvisational dance performance by the Raritan Valley Dance Ensemble ("RVDE") at The Center on Thursday, May 2nd at 7:00 p.m.  This performance is free and open to the public, no reservations are required.

Members of the RVDE will arrive earlier that evening and spend time viewing The Center's current exhibition, Marsha Goldberg: Reiterations-Paintings & Works on Paper.  Based on their experience and interpretation of Goldberg's artwork, RVDE will create and perform an improvisational work in the gallery with Goldberg's work hanging on the walls around them. The public is invited to arrive just before 7:00 p.m. if they would like to observe the creative process behind RVDE's performance.

The artwork of Marsha Goldberg, which in her words, "deals with subjects that are seemingly not connected: clouds of smoke as presented in news media in reporting acts of war; and a wooded landscape, captured in drawings shortly before the trees were destroyed to make way for development." She goes on to say, "I've used both subjects as means to consider the passage of time, definitions of gesture and abstraction, and how reiteration can both inform and obscure meaning." Originally from Boston, MA, she now lives and works in Highland Park, NJ, also maintaining a studio in Newark. Her work is primarily in painting, drawing, and printmaking, and recently she has been making cyanotypes from ink-on-acetate drawings. In 2013, she received the NJ State Council for the Arts Fellowship in the category Works on Paper.

The Raritan Valley Dance Ensemble provides performance and educational programs, which foster an appreciation of dance as an art form. The Ensemble, under the direction of Professor Loretta D. Fois, tours to local schools and community groups each semester and performs at campus and local events. RVCC faculty, guest artists, and students choreograph pieces for the repertory.  In conjunction with the Visual and Performing Arts Department, RVDE provides the College and greater community with opportunities to experience and appreciate live dance performance. RVDE plays an important leadership and educational role at RVCC and within the local New Jersey area.
