KSPS Productions Nominated for Two 2018 Northwest Regional Professional Emmy® Awards

SPOKANE, Wash. - April 18, 2019 - PRLog -- The Northwest Chapter of the National Acacemy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATASNW) announced Friday that two KSPS Public Television productions had been nominated for 2018 Northwest Regional Professional Emmy® Awards. Winners will be announces at the June 8th Awards Gala at Fremont Studios in Seattle, Wash.

Producer/Director/Photographer/Editor, Charles Costanza, was nominated in the Arts/Entertainment - Program Feature/Segment category for his work on "What They Left Behind." A segment of the KSPS series, "Northwest Profiles," "What The Left Behind" follows Helena's, Richard Buswell, a retired doctor who has spent the last 48 years capturing magnificent images of Ghost Towns and abandoned settlements of Montana. His unique photographic style breathes new life into the artifacts that were left behind.

Producer/Writer/Editor, Mary DeCesare; Director/Videographer, Jim Zimmer; and Rastrographics Art Director, Michael Dixon, were nominated in the Informational/Instructional - Program Feature/Segment category for their work on "Injustice at Home: Looking Like the Enemy." A video series designed for classroom use, "Injustice at Home" is a study of Executive Order 9066 and the resulting internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II, the failure of political leadership to protect constitutional rights, the military experience of Japanese-Americans during WWII, and examples of discrimination and racial prejudice the Japanese American community faced before, during, and after WWII.

"Injustice at Home" was made possible with funding from the Kip Tokuda Memorial Washington Civil Liberties Public Education Program. It figures prominently in two upcoming teacher workshops called "Injustice of the WWII Japanese American Incarceration.

Washington state public school K-12 educators are eligible to participate in the 7-hour workshops in Yakima, Wash., on May 4 and in Spokane, Wash., on June 1. All participants will receive clock hours and a $100 stipend after successfully completing the workshop.
