By: IntegraCare April is National Volunteer Month and National Volunteer Week was from April 7 to 13 this year. Colonial Courtyard at Bedford held a dinner to honor its volunteers on April 10. "Our Volunteer Recognition Dinner was a huge success at Colonial Courtyard at Bedford," said Nanette Bankes, LifeStyles Coordinator. "Thirty volunteers enjoyed much deserved recognition, as well as a delicious meal and dessert made with love by our Dietary Supervisor Brandy Thornton. We had enjoyable entertainment with Nancy Mickey, our Activities Assistant, and adorable candy flower favors, all served by many of the management staff. We wanted to say thank you to a very special group." A highlight of the evening was a harmonica performance by Colonial Courtyard at Bedford resident Martha Thomas. Thomas turned 101 years old on Jan. 7. She is a volunteer with the Retired Senior Chorus. "Martha has been part of the family here for 18 years," Bankes said. "Her harmonica playing is an enjoyable and much-anticipated part of our community." April became National Volunteer Month as part of President George H. W. Bush's 1000 Points of Light campaign in 1991. National Volunteer Week was established in 1974 and has grown exponentially each year, with thousands of volunteer projects and special events scheduled throughout the designated week each April. "We appreciate our volunteers all year long, but recognizing them during these national observances is important," Bankes said. Visit https://www.integracare.com. End
