BOSTON - May 1, 2019 - PRLog -- IMPACT Melanoma, a national non-profit organization dedicated to working to reduce the incidence of melanoma, has partnered with the Arbella Insurance Group to install the very first Sun Safety Station in Boston's Millennium Park on May 6th, 2019. Boston is only the second city in the United States to initiate IMPACT's impressive platform "Practice Safe Skin." This year, IMPACT will be initiating a new program, "Safe Skin at Work" to provide outdoor workers with resources to practice safe-skin behaviors.

"The Arbella Insurance Group is proud to partner once again with IMPACT Melanoma," said Gayle O'Connell, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of the Arbella Insurance Group. "This year, in addition to sponsoring sunscreen dispensers through our 'Practice Safe Skin' initiative, we're excited to launch the 'Safe Skin at Work' program in which we are providing 17 additional dispensers to worksites in Massachusetts, encouraging outdoor workers to practice sun-safe behaviors. Arbella is committed to raising awareness about the dangers of sun exposure as we continue to support the excellent work done by IMPACT Melanoma."

The Sun Safety Station is a major piece of IMPACT's Practice Safe Skin program and is equipped with four multi-facing sunscreen dispensers, a shade inducing umbrella, and storage for backup sunscreen and applicable supplies.

"As we get into summer weather here in Boston, sun protection is increasingly important for all people as an early way to protect against diseases such as melanoma," said Mayor Martin J. Walsh. "The work that IMPACT melanoma is doing is vital to protecting our residents, and I look forward to seeing their new Sun Safety Station at Millennium Park."

The unveiling of the Sun Safety Station will commence on May 6that 10am. Members of IMPACT and the Arbella Insurance Group will welcome the public to utilize the station for the first time alongside Mayor Marty Walsh, Commissioner of Parks and Recreation, Chris Cook, and Boston City Councilman, Matt O' Malley, who was instrumental in bringing sunscreen dispensers to Boston for the first time in the summer of 2015. This event was documented by a socially charged cameo on the popular animated series, The Simpson's, in the episode, "The Town," which aired on October 9th, 2016.

"I am thrilled to partner with IMPACT on implementing Boston's first Sun Safety Station at Millennium Park, one of the great open spaces in my District," said Councilor Matt O'Malley who also serves as Chairman of the Environment, Sustainability and Parks Committee. "This is a great opportunity to empower and educate visitors to practice sun safety, along with the many sunscreen dispensers in public parks across the City of Boston."

In addition to the Sun Safety Station launch in Millennium Park, IMPACT and the Arbella Insurance Group have joined forces with Boston-based organization, Save the Harbor / Save the Bay, to install 14 single, automatic, sunscreen-dispensing units throughout Save the Harbor / Save the Bay's network of locations throughout the city.

"We're so pleased to be working with the Arbella Insurance Group on this invaluable initiative in Boston – our very stomping grounds," said IMPACT's Practice Safe Skin Manager, Laurie Seavey. "I'm really looking forward to seeing all of Millennium Park's patrons checking out the Sun Safety Station and utilizing it as a part of their visit. It's an impressive structure and will certainly fuel engagement and awareness as it pertains to practicing safe skin!"

About Practice Safe Skin

In response to the Surgeon General's 2014 Call to Action to address skin cancer as a major public concern, IMPACT Melanoma and partner Bright Guard, launched a pilot program called Practice Safe Skin during the summer 2015 to donate free sunscreen throughout Boston parks and Massachusetts beaches at no cost to taxpayers.  Following the success of the pilot program, the Practice Safe Skin initiative is expanding to offer cities and businesses across the country the ability to purchase and provide this public safety program.
