Now Available - Small Freely Programmable CAN Bus Safety Controller with Ethernet Flashing

ATLANTA - May 9, 2019 - PRLog -- STW, a premier provider for mobile automation, digitalization and electrification solutions, extends the 32-bit ESX control unit family with a small control unit devised for use in challenging environmental conditions. This freely programmable ESX-3CS CAN Bus Controller allows service technicians to access, update and troubleshoot the unit without using a CAN dongle, thus improving the speed and reliability of the connection.

Compact Size
The "C" in 3CS stands for "Compact" and indicates that all pins are assigned prior to the hardware definition. The functions of these pins can be defined in more detail using software. All 32 bit control units are suitable for safety-oriented applications up to Performance Level (PL) d or Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 2, and are based on a common architectural concept. The ESX-3CS has a new robust aluminium die cast housing with automotive plug-in connectors and contains a powerful 32-bit 300 MHz microcontroller with 4MB Flash and 8MB RAM, up to two CAN interfaces, one serial interface, Ethernet, LIN and two LEDs.

Safety and Diagnostic Capability
A second, independent processor monitors the various system voltages and the program sequence. If required, this switches off all outputs via a second shut-down method or resets the main controller. Digital and analog feedback for almost all signal branches permits comprehensive diagnostics for the system including the inputs and outputs.

For safety-oriented applications, a safety layer API is available which permits the separation of safety and non-safety (feedback-free) application sections using a memory protection unit. This makes the effort required for recertification in case of changes to the non-safety application software substantially easier. The creation and updating of a safety-oriented application can be conveniently carried out using a safety manual and a diagnostics library.

The ESX-3CS complies with the standards for conformity according to CE and E1 as well as the standards for the vehicle, agricultural and construction machine industry.

Software
The application software for the ESX-3CS can be created very efficiently either in "C", CODESYS V3.5 IEC 61131 or LogiCAD. In the programming interface, numerous convenient functions such as current control and ramp functions for outputs or frequency averaging for inputs are integrated.

Freely programmable, compatible with regard to input and output types to other members of the ESX family, and supported through the comprehensive STW toolchain, the ESX-3CS rounds off the third generation of successful ESX control units with an entry level option.

Ethernet Flashing
The Ethernet port on the ESX-3CS is very useful for flashing and diagnostic purposes. It allows service technicians to access, update and troubleshoot the unit without using a CAN dongle, thus improving the speed and reliability of the connection.
