ACCRA, Ghana - May 30, 2019 - PRLog -- Organizers of the 5th Africa Mini Grids Summit 2019, Magenta Global (Singapore), announce the merger of this year's edition with the World Bank ESMAP / DFID / SREP's 5th Mini Grid Action Learning Event and the Government of Ghana's Achieving Universal Energy Access in Ghana by 2020 to create a singular one-stop meeting platform for all involved in Africa's mini grids.

The combined event will be held on June 24-28 at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, Ghana.

This strategic collaboration by two of the most significant mini grids events for Africa creates the largest industry gathering for the continent, bringing together more than 500 participants from the energy sector across Africa and around the world.

An unprecedented line-up of more than 80 speakers will include keynotes by HE Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President, Republic of Ghana; Hon John Peter Amewu, Minister, Ministry of Energy, Ghana; Hon Joseph Cudjoe, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Energy, Ghana; HE Mrs Samira Bawumia, Second Lady of the Republic of Ghana; Dr Kandeh Yumkella, former UN Under-Secretary-General and Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Sustainable Energy for All; Dr Alfred Ahenkorah, Executive Secretary, Energy Commission, Ghana; and Henry Kerali, Country Director, World Bank, amongst many others.

Ms Maggie Tan, CEO of Magenta Global commented: "We are delighted to be part of the World Bank ESMAP initiative this year. Improving electrification to the 600 million Africans currently living without access to modern energy services is of paramount priority. Proactive changes to the regulatory environment, financing facilities and PPP structures are needed. The time is right to unlock resources and the technology is available to create economically and financially sustainable mini grids to power communities and businesses. It is the objective of this Summit to catalyze private sector involvement in mini grids".

Prof AbuBakr Bahaj, the Summit Country Program Chair and Head of the Energy & Climate Change at the University of Southampton, UK noted: "The International Energy Agency, has indicated that to achieve 100% electrification by 2030, we need to rely on solutions that do not depend on a centralised electrical grid. This Mini Grid Summit is one of the most interesting meetings addressing electricity access for productive use. It brings together policy makers, relevant government organizations, developers and academics under one roof to thresh out pertinent issues related to access and to discuss pathways to deliver on the UN Sustainable Development Goals especially SDG7".

The 5-day event consists of a day of insightful presentations by key African Electricity Authorities on the latest policies, strategic initiatives and opportunities for mini grids projects in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Zambia, amongst others; two full days of high-level discussion on Ghana Universal Energy Access 2020 mini grids implementation; and a Global Technical Conference on Mini Grids with parallel sessions covering the 10 Pillars of Mini Grids. The final day is dedicated to a field visit to a solar wind hybrid mini grids on Pediatorkope Island, Ghana.
