Ten College Students Cycle 3,400 Miles To Fight The Global Water Crisis

AZUSA, Calif. - June 11, 2019 - PRLog -- Ten co-ed college students from Azusa Pacific University have set out to travel coast to coast to help fight the global water crisis. For the past seven years, this group has been known as Ride for Water – a group of students from the university who have dedicated their summer to fundraise for and bring awareness to the global water crisis. Eight of the ten team members this summer have just recently graduated from APU and rather than jumping into post-graduate jobs, they are cycling 3,400 miles in 50 days. This year's team is made up of six cyclists, Jay Cummings, Kara Ingersoll, Daniel Burroughs, Nick Guido, Whitney Williams, and Kody Schneider, three drivers, Morgan Olhiser, Jameson Plaskett, and Val Cox, and one additional support assistant, Carolina Phillips.

"The craziest thing we can do is nothing. That is why we have committed to ride our bikes across the country this summer. We know riding our bikes won't solve the global water crisis, but we believe that we can make a difference by starting conversations and donating money we raise along the way" said a Ride for Water team member when asked their mission for Ride for Water.

As a supporter for the non-profit charity: water, the team has set a fundraising goal of $80,000 from a total of 700 donors by July 10, 2019. Since 2013, Ride for Water has raised over $358,000, and just $30 can provide clean water for one person for life.

The team started by dipping their tires in the Pacific Ocean at Bodega Bay, CA will hit major route milestones near Salt Lake City, Utah and Chicago, Illinois. They will end their ride on July 10^th by riding into Pier 25 in Hudson Park in New York City. ABOUT RIDE FOR WATER

Ride for Water began in 2012 when five college students learned about the global water crisis. Wanting to take action, they decided to bike across the United States to raise awareness. In May of 2013, the team departed, raising over $37,500 for clean water along the way. Every year since then, other teams have followed suit, continuing to expand, fundraise, and ride. Today, Ride for Water is a network of difference-makers that have collectively raised over $350,000 toward clean water projects—and they're not quitting anytime soon.
