Similar to your rear windshield and side glass, tempered sunroof glass, has a stronger structural integrity than regular glass. This is the result of the heating and then quick cooling process of the tempered glass. When subject to significant force, tempered glass shatters outward into smaller even pieces which is much safer for the passengers in the vehicle.

Coverage for your damaged sunroof glass would be covered under your policy's
comprehensive insurance. Keep in mind though that comprehensive insurance only applies to the broken glass, not if there is an issue with the mechanism for opening and closing, or the frame and tracks of your sunroof.
