Local Kansas City Business Woman Calls on Women to Support One Another

Local, Teri Bybee, believes her unique approach to consciousness raising is key to advancing women

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - June 24, 2019 - PRLog -- While women have made great strides in the past few decades, they still face significant challenges when it comes to achieving full equality. Local entrepreneur, Teri Bybee, founded Women Who Risk, which brings small groups of women together in forum-like events to share their stories and support one another. She argues this innovative approach, which uses storytelling and group facilitation, is key to women achieving true power.

That's why Bybee is calling on influential women in Kansas City to step up to the plate and support other women by hosting a Women Who Risk forum at their business, organization or within their community of women. "I founded this business 2 years ago when I had a revelation about my own relationship to taking risks, perfectionism and success," comments Bybee.

Bybee's approach has been endorsed by professionals and academics alike. Dr. Meggie Mapes, a professor of communications at the University of Kansas says the events like Bybee provides could be linked to many positive benefits like psychological well being and leadership skills, "It could likely be linked to many of those. Consciousness raising groups require that you practice listening in an empathetic way. That's rare for leadership, and could be a valuable skill—as well as in interpersonal relationships, etc. It also validates people as credible when they're speaking from experience; and it asks that you seek feedback based on those experiences from those around you, which expands the way you see the world and what might be possible."

The forums are designed to help women achieve greater levels of satisfaction, decrease stress and anxiety and turn empowerment into power. Bybee says, "By focusing on how we can re-shape and re-pattern negative beliefs into productive patterns the forums bring women together to achieve power at every level of their lives."
