FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - July 5, 2019 - PRLog -- Meals on Wheels South Florida announced today that members of the South Florida community are invited to join their volunteer team this summer.

The volunteer team at Meals on Wheels South Florida assists the organization by delivering meals to homebound clients throughout Broward County, providing grocery shopping assistance to seniors who are unable to shop for themselves, serving meals at congregate dining sites and more. Volunteers also spearhead the Meals for Companion Pets Program, which delivers pet food once a month to home-bound seniors who need assistance taking care of their animals.

Meals on Wheels South Florida is part of a national network, Meals on Wheels America, the only national organization and network dedicated solely to ending senior hunger in America. They are the oldest and largest organization composed of and representing local, community-based Senior Nutrition Programs in all 50 states and U.S. territories.

"Volunteers are truly the backbone of our organization," said Mark Adler, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels South Florida. "It is our dedicated volunteer team of individuals that deliver not only thousands of meals a day county-wide, but also the friendly smiles and safety checks that enable seniors to remain independent in their own homes."

Volunteers must be 18 years of age and older, possess a valid driver's license, current insurance, and the ability to pass a background check. Orientations are held at the Meals on Wheels South Florida headquarters twice a week and those interested can sign up directly online through their website.
