Managing Negative Aspects of Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Businesses with Dr. Kenneth Benjamin Hughes

LOS ANGELES - July 22, 2019 - PRLog -- The plastic surgery and cosmetic plastic surgery business in Los Angeles can be intimidating for a host of issues.  Dr. Kenneth Benjamin Hughes has been presented with some particularly disheartening scenarios that should be shared with other plastic surgeons, businesses, and the public as well to help educate about the negative aspects of the business.

     1) Credit card fraud and fraud in general can severely compromise the businesses of plastic surgery.  Many patients choose to pay for surgical services with credit card.  The business should always make sure to get a copy of the passport or driver's license along with a copy of the credit card as well as signatures for maximal protection.  The problem is so widespread that the credit card companies themselves have specific forms to fill out to prevent such fraud.

      2) Patients will ask other people to pay for their surgery, but make sure that that individual has provided the same information as above (no exceptions).

      3) Finally, some patients will have surgery and even ask for credit card chargebacks after surgery - a particularly deplorable and heinous abuse.  The really morally contemptible thing is that the credit card companies will sometimes side with the credit card holder in these cases.

     4) Insurance patients can present similar challenges as well.  In addition to all of the problems mentioned above, the insurance company may take two years before finally agreeing to pay the bills submitted.  However, there are insurance companies who will mail the checks for reimbursement to the patients.  The patients, instead of sending the check to the plastic surgeon as instructed, will cash the check.  This, of course, is fraud as well.

In these obvious cases, you have a few options.  1) Contact the person immediately and ask for payment.  2) Take the individual to small claims court (if the amount is small enough) and ask the court to garnish the paycheck and any bank accounts.  3) Ask one of your lawyers to commence legal proceedings against said individual.  4) Report the fraud to the authorities to start a criminal investigation.
