Barwis bootcamp bridges Clubkids with their future

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - Aug. 6, 2019 - PRLog -- Thirty-two kids pulled up in a bus outside First Data Field not knowing sixty minutes later they would be sweaty, tired and energized all at the same time.
Barwis Performance Center of Port St. Lucie welcomed Boys Chuck Hill club members to workout at their gym in St. Lucie West. Bryan Wright, Director of Operations Head Strength & Conditioning Coach, put the kids through an hour-long, non-stop workout while also showing them the career path of a fitness trainer. When the kids thought they could not keep going, Wright motivated them to keep pushing forward and complete the rigorous task.
While at the training facility, the teens took part in team-building exercises with ropes, pushing weighted sleds across the floor, power jumps, and medicine ball lifting. They ended outside with a race around the field then a pep talk from Wright about the importance of leading by example.

Michael Tolbert, 14, who already works out to stay in shape, explained that he learned new techniques that will help him to become stronger. He was motivated to add new methods to his current workout regimen. Tolbert and the rest of the club kids were invited back at any time during drop in hours or to tag along on a variety of classes.
"This is also a rewarding career path. For somebody looking for something bigger than them." said Wright. He explained the importance of working quadriplegic people who have been told "no, you can't do that" throughout their lives, those who have been given zero chance, then the feeling of helping them do something they thought they could not do.
"During Summer of Success, youth participate in Youth Employment Success Solutions (YESS) training, which teaches them the required soft skills needed to excel in the workplace. These soft skills include but are not limited to a stronger work ethic, written and verbal communication skills, teamwork, honesty, integrity, and adaptability," said Tonya Woodworth, communications manager for CareerSource Research Coast.
Though the club kids were sweaty and tired, they were full of smiles throughout the workout. While the club kids may be sore today, they will find their efforts will build strength for tomorrow and their future self will thank them for it!
