Zyscovich Architects Announces Completion Of A New Public School For Orange County Public Schools

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Aug. 8, 2019 - PRLog -- Just a few week's before the start of the 2019-2020 academic year, parents, students, and staff are taking a "sneak peek" of Orange County Public Schools' new, Pershing K-8 School designed by Zyscovich Architects' Winter Park, Florida office.

Zyscovich was commissioned by the OCPS school district to conceptualize and design a new, 21st-century learning environment that inspires students, enhances its communities and promotes interdisciplinary teaching and professional development while using the building as a learning tool. This effort also called for the phasing out of two of the district's old, outdated facilities previously designed for a different era, Pine Castle and Pershing Elementary School, while at the same time merging both student populations into one spectacular campus.

Given that a school's environment can have a substantial impact on a student's cognitive ability, health, and wellbeing, Zyscovich has incorporated multiple, flexible, collaboration spaces strategically placed throughout the school as well as ESE and resource rooms on every floor that are also integrated completely with the general classroom spaces.

The new campus, designed for 1,346 student stations, consists of a three-story, 160,000 SF facility that includes an 18,000 SF gymnasium. The new building's core spaces include a state-of-the-art media center, administration, kitchen, and dining/multipurpose facility. The school has its own music/art suite located in close proximity to the multipurpose space in order to facilitate access to the stage during performances, dedicated student drop-offs sites, 150 parking spaces, and more than 3,000 LF of queuing to keep all school traffic on-site.
