Follow on Google News | California Lumber Company Crosses Country For Goat HikeTen Apple Farm's goat hikes take place on well maintained trails within the farm's own woodlands. Hikers are joined by the farm's Alpine Dairy Goats who are specially selected for their demeanor. General Manager, Stephen Ondich explains, "It was something I had seen on social media a few times before and always wanted to try. We reached out to Karl Schatz of Ten Apple Farm and he helped us coordinate the hike. Goat-activities like hiking and yoga have become increasingly popular in the last few years." Commercial Forest Products Credit Manager, Heidi Snyder observed, "The hike had something for all of us. Anyone who wanted to interact with the goats was able to do so. At the same time, the mature forestland was scenic and inspiring." Photographer Karl Schatz and Author Margaret Hathaway of Ten Apple Farm are the husband and wife team that brought the concept of goat hiking to Maine. In 2003, they attended a pack goat hike with John Mionczynski in Wyoming which inspired them to replicate the experience at their own homestead in Gray Maine. Mionczynski, a naturalist who is best know for his decades-long search for big foot, is also one of the pioneers of pack goat hiking.
