Keeping Us Safe and Comfort Keepers of Northern Ohio Announce Strategic Alliance

Two Lake County organizations have partnered to address a concerned family's concerns surrounding the safety and security of an aging loved-one, not only in their homes, but also on the highways.

MENTOR, Ohio - Aug. 26, 2019 - PRLog -- Matt Gurwell, Founder and CEO of Keeping Us Safe, a national organization with a mission to help keep older drivers safe, and Jack Warren, President of Comfort Keepers of Northern Ohio are pleased to announce they have joined forces to address the ever-present concerns related to safety and security of senior citizens, not only in their own homes, but also while driving in our community.

For more than ten years, Keeping Us Safe has guided senior citizens through a comprehensive self-assessment driving program to determine a senior's safety while driving.  When conditions merit, senior drivers may be encouraged to "retire" from the driver's seat to the passenger seat.

Recognizing that driving is a long-held demonstration of independence and continued self-sufficiency, Mr. Gurwell's organization, along with Comfort Keepers of Northern Ohio shall present seniors and their families with reasonable and cost-effective solutions that aid in keeping our seniors safe on the road, and maintaining dignity and independence in their regular Activities of Daily Living.

Founded in Ashtabula in 2003 and based now in Painesville, Comfort Keepers of Northern Ohio provides in-home care services to individuals who exhibit some need with respect to nutrition management and meal preparation, managing a household, or matters of personal hygiene.  The agency also provides varying degrees of assistance to those exhibiting symptoms of dementia or Alzheimer's Disease.

"This new alliance provides each of our organizations an added layer of support when faced with those issues common in a senior's household," says Mr. Warren.  "We need only ask Keeping Us Safe to help with a driving self-assessment when 'taking away the car keys' is a task the Client's family would rather not do."  Mr. Gurwell added, "When we come into contact with newly retired drivers who need a little help in their homes, we know we can count on Comfort Keepers to provide just enough assistance with transportation or shopping and other errands that allows our Clients the dignity of doing as much as they possibly can and still be safe in their home and out in the community."
