Waterbury Regional Chamber's Leadership Greater Waterbury Welcomes 2019-2020 Program Participants

WATERBURY, Conn. - Sept. 16, 2019 - PRLog -- The Waterbury Regional Chamber is currently recruiting participants for the 2019-2020 Leadership Greater Waterbury (LGW) program. This engaging leadership and professional development program create lifelong partnerships and community awareness among future leaders in civic, professional and community organizations throughout the Greater Waterbury region. The goal of the LGW program is to provide a creative, interactive environment for participants to meet regional leaders and discuss the challenges that affect the region.

The Class of 2020 has room for only 25 members with an application deadline of October 4, 2019. Participants in the nine-month LGW program are exposed to multiple perspectives surrounding Greater Waterbury's business and civic arenas, community challenges, opportunities, and assets. Program Director Courtney Ligi explained, "The participants are introduced to regional leaders and facilitators from public, private and non-profit businesses and organizations plus 400 LGW alumni; they are provided with personal and business coaching, and they collaborate on team projects to make a positive impact on our regional community."

During monthly full-day sessions, participants in the program visit various locations, meet with community leaders, and learn about the region's health care and education systems; governmental offices and programs; social services; arts and entertainment offerings; and volunteer opportunities.

Leadership skills development offered through the LGW program include the opportunity to recruit, lead and manage teams; innovation and change management skill development; communication and time management strategies; project management; government relations/civic engagement; media and public relations; presentation skills; board of directors development; and community involvement.

"The LGW program attracts life-long learners with 5 to 25 years of work experience who want to develop their careers, become leaders and make commitments to volunteer community service," Ligi said. "The program has had over 450 participants, many of whom cite the skills and experiences that they gain from Leadership as a reason for promotions, growth and new community leadership roles."

In addition to the LGW group activities, participants collaborate on team projects and each team is partnered with a program alumn to assist with project implementation. The overall 2019-2020 LGW program will begin with two Orientation Days on Thursday, October 17 and Friday, October 18.
